ProfVet Mobile is used for data entry during consultations and inseminations in the field.  The program was originally developed for Psion handheld terminals and was adapted for use on the Nokia 9210 Communicator in 2002.  As of October 2004 the program is available for use on the Pocket PC.  ProfVet Mobile is currently used by 90 veterinarians in Norway.
 

The transition to Pocket PC confers many benefits.  You are free to choose the machine of your liking and it is up to you to decide whether you also want functions like mobile phone and camera.  Besides ProfVet Mobile your Pocket PC can also be used for a multitude of other purposes:  Word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, E-mail, calendar og appointment diary with synchronization against MS Outlook.
 

Within a group of practitioners it is perfectly possible to let some users have a Pocket PC while others use a Psion or Nokia terminal. NB! The Pocket PC must have the operating system Windows Mobile 2003 or later if ProfVet Mobile is to run on it.
 

For starters we are making ProfVet Mobile similar to the old version of the program, and only for use with ProfVet Practice. We envisage a later stage of development where different types of data may be transmitted from the Pocket PC's (depending on regulations laid down by the Government).  A receipt to the owner, for instance, might be sent by e-mail/SMS (i.e., by wireless) - likewise medication, retention deadlines and instructions for the care and  monitoring of the animal.  Reports on medicatioon to the Government is also one of the things one might wish to transmit directly from the Pocket PC, as well as retrieval/perusal of data from central databases.  We also hope to develop the different ProfVet programs jointly so that the terminal (Pocket PC) can be used by the journal programs in all modules.
 

Experience gained by present users of ProfVet Mobile indicates that this invesment will soon pay for itself.  Since data entry is carried out in the field, it is easy to remembmer to write all that has been done.

The greatest benefit is still the time saved.  Your job is already done when you get home.  Data from the terminal can be transferred to ProfVet Practice at your convenience, and the transmission itself takes less than a minute.

The program is very fast and easy to use.   On entering a field  where one of several choices must be made, the list of alternatives will appear automatically.  Typing a letter will make the program selecct the first choice with this initial letter.

All customers, animals, services, treatments and standard prices that you have registered will be transferred to the terminal.  New customers can be registered on the terminal.

The program is equipped with a copy function so that you can easily enter the same treatment for several animals at the same location.

If there are cases where you want to give a more detailed description of the case, you may use the clinical journal.

The price of consultation, medicine and equipment may depend on the treatment, or you can use a standard rate.  In either case you are free to modify the amounts.

You may also choose to let the program enter driving expenses automatically to each consultation.  Such expenses can be differentiated by driving zones.

The terminal has good storage capacity, and you may empty it whenever convenient.  The registrations from ProfVet Mobile are transferred to the PC via cable.

Once the data have been transferred to ProfVet Practice, you may proceed to do invoicing and transmission of inseminaton data to the veterinarian authorities via Internet.
